Sample

The first bike I tried to fix on my own was a purple kids’ bike with a flat tire and streamers on the handlebars (note 1). Its owner, a seven-year-old named Dani, watched me pry the tire off with a spoon.

Tutor · note 1

This is your opening. One vivid detail says more than a paragraph of summary.

Great vs. weak

See the difference great makes.

Every lesson puts a great example beside a weak one, so you know exactly what to aim for.

From the personal statement lesson

Original teaching sample — not a real applicant

Two openings about the same Saturdays at a bike repair co-op, by Rafael, a fictional senior.

Weak

Ever since I was young, I have always been passionate about helping others. (note 1) Volunteering at a bike shop in my community has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life (note 2). Through this experience, I learned many valuable lessons about teamwork, leadership, and responsibility (note 3).

  1. 1Could be anyone. Any applicant could open with this sentence.
  2. 2Tells instead of shows. Calling it meaningful doesn’t make the reader feel it.
  3. 3Lessons listed, not learned. Three big words, and no evidence for any of them.
Great

The first bike I tried to fix on my own was a purple kids’ bike with a flat tire and streamers on the handlebars (note 1). Its owner, a seven-year-old named Dani, watched me pry the tire off with a spoon because I couldn’t find the tire levers. “Is that how you’re supposed to do it?” she asked. It wasn’t. (note 2) For my first two months at the Alder Street Bike Co-op, I fixed bikes the way I did homework: fast, alone, and without asking questions (note 3).

  1. 1A picture, not a summary. Concrete details put the reader right in the shop.
  2. 2Willing to look a little silly. A real line of dialogue shows confidence without claiming it.
  3. 3Names the old habit. Noticing a pattern is where reflection begins.

The takeaway: Start inside one moment. Use details only you know. Let the change show in what you did.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Still unsure? Book a free consult and ask us directly.

Who is it for, and when should I start?

High schoolers applying through the Common App. The summer before senior year is ideal: time to write before the first deadlines. Juniors can start sooner. Under 18? A parent or guardian enrolls you.

What happens in the three sessions?

Session one sets your strategy and finds your best stories. Session two shapes your personal statement. Session three is a final review of your Common App before you submit (tutor editing on supplements is priced per school as College Essay Review). Each is one-on-one with your ProMed United tutor, in a program designed by Dr. Dave, DO, MBS.

What do unlimited editing sessions cover?

Your personal statement, activities list, honors, and resume: as many sessions as you need while you're enrolled. Bring a draft; your tutor comments and suggests edits, and you decide what changes. Supplemental essays are separate: the self-paced program teaches them, and tutor editing on them is priced per school as College Essay Review ($120 per school, down to $80).

Will anyone write my essays for me?

No. You write every word; your tutor comments and suggests. With consent (a parent's or guardian's if you're under 18), tutors may use AI tools to flag unclear sentences or facts that don't match. The Common App asks you to affirm that your application is your own work. With us, it is.

How much does it cost?

$1,500 by bank (ACH) or $1,545 by card; the card price covers card processing. Or pay over time with Klarna (subject to approval): $1,596 total. Add College Foundations and both are $3,775 by bank, $3,889 by card, or $4,016 over time: 10% off, applied automatically in your cart. College Essay Review is extra, priced per school ($120 per school, down to $80), and the 10% bundle discount doesn't apply to it.

Does it include a letter of recommendation?

Not on its own. College Foundations includes a personalized letter from Dr. Dave, based on your completed work there: a recommendation when the work supports one, otherwise a letter confirming completion. A recommendation is never guaranteed, and some colleges limit extra letters, so check each college's policy.

What is your refund policy?

All sales are final, except where the law requires a refund; see our Refund Policy for the full terms. Questions first? Book a free consult.
