The exam
What's on the GRE.
The GRE® General Test is the graduate admissions exam from ETS, taken at a test center or at home. It has three measures.
- Verbal
Verbal Reasoning
Reading comprehension, text completion, and sentence equivalence: reading closely and choosing words precisely.
- Quant
Quantitative Reasoning
Arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data analysis, with an on-screen calculator.
- Writing
Analytical Writing
One timed essay that asks you to take a position on an issue and support it.
Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning are each scored from 130 to 170; Analytical Writing from 0 to 6.
How it works
From the free consult to test day.
Live one-on-one sessions on a fixed weekly schedule, with a tutor matched to you and a plan that follows your practice results.
- Before you buy
Free consult
A short call about your test date, your scores so far, and how much time you have each week. We suggest a package size, with no obligation.
- Before session 1
A matched tutor and a fixed schedule
We pair you with a tutor matched to the GRE, your goals, and your schedule, and set the same days and times each week.
- Session 1
The diagnostic, also your Good Fit Consult
Your tutor goes through a recent full-length practice test, ideally one of the official practice tests from ETS, or your score report if you're retaking, and sorts every miss: a content gap, a reasoning error, a timing problem, or a misread question.
Session 1 is the first paid session with your matched tutor, and it is your Good Fit Consult, covered by our Good Fit Guarantee: if you're not happy after it for any reason, we refund that first session in full.
- Every week
A plan built around your test date
A written, week-by-week plan, built backward from your test date, puts the highest-yield gaps first. Each session reviews your misses, teaches the next topic, and ends with timed practice.
- Final weeks
Full-length practice under test conditions
Full-length official practice tests from ETS, taken timed and reviewed in session, so the plan follows what they show.
Who it is for
Wherever you're starting from, we meet you there.
Applying to a master's or PhD program
A plan timed to your application deadlines, so your scores are ready when your programs need them.
Out of school for a while
Math feeling rusty? We rebuild the quantitative basics first, then move to test-style problems.
Verbal or writing holding you back
We work on close reading, vocabulary in context, and a clear structure for the issue essay.
Retaking for a higher score
An honest look at your last score report, then a plan aimed at the measure with the most room to grow.

Frequently asked questions
Still unsure? Book a free consult and ask us directly.
How much does GRE Tutoring cost?
GRE Tutoring is priced on your free consult. Packages are 10, 20, 40, or 80 hours, and we suggest a size once we know your test date and starting point. There's no obligation.
Who will I work with, and what if it isn't a good fit?
A tutor from the ProMed United team, matched to the GRE, your goals, and your schedule after your free consult. Dr. Dave, DO, MBS, designed the tutoring method and leads the team. Your first session with your matched tutor is your Good Fit Consult. If you're not happy after that first session for any reason, we refund that first session in full. The Good Fit Guarantee applies to Tutoring packages only.
Is tutoring online?
Yes. Every session is a live one-on-one video session at the same times each week, so you can join from anywhere.
How long does prep take?
It depends on your test date, your starting point, and how many hours a week you can study. We set your timeline after the diagnostic in session 1, not before, and we work with any timeline.
Do all graduate programs require the GRE?
No. Many programs have made the GRE optional or no longer use it, so check each program's current policy. On your free consult we can talk through whether taking it makes sense for your list.
Do you replace my prep books or question bank?
No. We work alongside the materials you already use and add a clear method for reviewing what you miss.
Can you guarantee a score?
No. No ethical tutor can guarantee a score. Tutoring is designed to help you study efficiently and walk in prepared, and your practice tests show both of us honestly how it's going.
